White’s latest project ‘stranger in a strange land’ sees him take onto the unnatural landscapes of the monumental heaps of industry left behind from the industrial age. Walking the unnatural and often unstable land he marked new pathways with string or salt to try and record/map his movements on this barren surface.
White attempts to become the bing and share its plight as he physically interacts and intertwines with the surface of the land. Walking these lands with their steep ascent and descent White felt akin to someone staking their claim at the top of a great peak.
White recognises the monuments that these heaps have become of a time now past, when they served the working lives of their communities and were a vital part of an industrial heritage.
